About US
Mahatma Basweshwar College is one of the important branches of Mahatma Basweshwar Education Society. It was started in 1970 keeping in view the aim of spreading Higher and Qualitative education to the common masses in the society. This is a multi faculty educational institute in Latur District and one of the most reputed colleges in S.R.T.M, University, Nanded .
At present, this college offers various courses in several disciplines like Arts, Commerce, Science and Social work to more than 25, 00 students at U. G. & P.G. level. The college imparts education at P.G. level also in Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, History, Geography and Mathematics. The college has 4 research center in Philosophy, Geography, Hindi and Sociology. Every year college organizes ‘Basweshwar Lecture Series’, ‘Mahatma Phule Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition’ and ‘Dr.Surendra Barlinge Lecture Series’ in the honor of Hon. Late Dr. Barlinge for his kind donation of personal library books on philosophy to our college. Needless to say, our college has a well equipped Library with 1.8 lakh books, a spacious Reading Room available for the students round the clock, advanced laboratories and well-learned and devoted faculties.
The college had organized State, National and International Level conferences and Workshops in various subjects so far. With distinguished faculties and excellent infrastructure, the college stands as a symbol of Quality Education.
Latur city
Latur city is one of the fastest developing districts in Maharashtra. It is well known for its quality of education, food-grains trade and oil mills. Latur has developed as a good educational center in Maharashtra over the years. From past few years, Latur has emerged as a strong Educational Hub for School Level education as well as University Level Education. Latur is also famous for processing of Edible Oil. It has the largest trading center for Soyabean in India. The green city is inside what is called ‘Sugar Belt of Maharashtra’. Latur district has more than eleven sugar factories which make it among the highest sugar producing district of India. Latur is also known for high quality grapes and it houses many state and privately owned Cold Storage Warehouse. Grapes of Latur are exported every year to many countries like U.K, Germany, Mexico, Russia, etc.
Latur is also called as city of politicians and Actors. Keshavrao Sonawane was first minister from Latur region. City is birthplace of other politicians also, such as Hon. Shivraj Patil (Chakurkar) Speaker of Loksabha, Science and technology Minister, Homeminister Govt. Of India, Diliprao Deshmukh Minister in Maharashtra Govt., Vilasrao Deshmukh twice chief Minister of Maharashtra Govt. and Minister in Govt of India. Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh is son of Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh.
